The above turns per inch guide is for close wound coils. If you want to use spaced winding on your coil just enter the turns per inch that you want to use. For instance wind #22 Gage wire using just half of the close wound turns per inch by entering 17.5 Turns per inch. This would result in a space equal to the wire diameter.

Like wise if you want to use close wound insulated wire just test wind an inch on a broom handle and count the number of turns.
